Synopsis of Bill
Senate Memorial 62 declares that Governor Bill Richardson be congratulated on his run for the
presidency and that he be recognized for the favorable public attention he brought to the state of
New Mexico; and that the senate wishes Governor Richardson well in whatever endeavor he
chooses to pursue.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

SIGNIFICANT ISSUES
Senate Memorial 62 states that;
Governor Bill Richardson is the first New Mexican to mount a legitimate campaign for
president of the United States; and
Governor Richardson's outstanding credentials as a former congressman, cabinet
secretary and ambassador to the United Nations were cited numerous times by the
national media during the presidential campaign; and
Governor Richardson's keen negotiating style would have served him and the country
well as he dealt with the heads of foreign states; and
Governor Richardson's year-long presidential campaign brought national attention to the
state of New Mexico and allowed the governor to highlight the state as a wonderful place
to live, raise a family, work and do business; and
Governor Richardson made all New Mexicans proud with his knowledge of domestic
policy and world affairs, his self-effacing humor and his skillful debating style during his
numerous appearances on national television talk shows and nationally televised debates;
and
Governor Richardson's demeanor and positive campaign style demonstrated to the
country what it means to be a true New Mexican gentleman; and

Although most New Mexicans would have been proud to see Governor Richardson
succeed in his presidential bid, all are just as happy to have him back home, leading the
great state of New Mexico;
