A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR ITS DILIGENCE IN IMPLEMENTING SAFETY MEASURES IN INCLEMENT WEATHER.

     WHEREAS, during the severe weather that New Mexicans have endured this winter and every winter, crews from the department of transportation are out before dawn making the roads safe for travelers; and

     WHEREAS, due to the valiant and intrepid work of department of transportation crews in the harshest of winter conditions, the highways of New Mexico are cleared, salted and sanded, and commuters and travelers are able to move freely throughout most of the state by early morning; and

     WHEREAS, the department of transportation carefully monitors the roads of the state and provides traveler advisories and up-to-date information to the media and on its web site; and

     WHEREAS, the department of transportation's work allows the business of the state to continue during severe winter weather, thereby saving millions of dollars in revenue that might otherwise be lost due to road closures; and

     WHEREAS, the department of transportation's work allows the vital business of our state's democracy to continue as legislators and citizens travel from many areas of the state to attend the legislative session during winter months;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the department of transportation's contributions to the state's safety and welfare be recognized; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the secretary of transportation.
