AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE ANIMAL CARE AND FACILITY FUND TO BE USED TO ASSIST ANIMAL SHELTERS IN TRANSITIONING FROM CARBON MONOXIDE CHAMBERS TO INJECTION FOR EUTHANASIA.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the animal care and facility fund and is further appropriated from that fund to the regulation and licensing department for expenditure in fiscal years 2010 and 2011 by the animal sheltering services board to assist animal shelters in transitioning from carbon monoxide chambers to injection for the euthanasia of cats and dogs and for meeting the requirements of rules promulgated by the animal sheltering services board regulating the provision of euthanasia services by animal shelters. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2011 shall revert to the general fund.
