A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING FEBRUARY 4, 2009 AS "BLUE STAR MOTHERS DAY" AT THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

 

     WHEREAS, blue star mothers was founded as a veterans' services organization and was part of a movement to provide care packages to military members serving overseas and also to provide assistance to families encountering hardships as a result of their loved ones serving in war; and

     WHEREAS, in 1960, congress chartered the blue star mothers of America as a veterans' services organization; and

     WHEREAS, there are eight blue star mothers of America chapters in New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, the purpose of blue star mothers is to perpetuate the memory of all the men and women who have served this country as members of the armed forces, to be patriotic, to

foster true democracy, to care for the unsupported mothers who gave their children to the service of the nation, to uphold the American institutions of freedom, justice and equal rights and to defend the United States from all enemies; and

     WHEREAS, blue star mothers have children protecting freedom, liberty and justice during this time of war in Afghanistan, Iraq and around the world, and one of the most difficult challenges a mother can face is to know that her child's life is at risk; and

     WHEREAS, blue star mothers provides support for the families of active duty service personnel, promotes patriotism, assists veterans' organizations and is available to assist in homeland volunteer efforts to help our country remain strong;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that it express its appreciation to the mothers and other family members of military personnel; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that February 4, 2009 be recognized as "Blue Star Mothers Day" at the house of representatives and that recognition be extended to all the blue star mothers chapters in New Mexico for their sacrifice, patriotism and service to military personnel, their families and America; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the presidents of the eight blue star mothers chapters in New Mexico.
