A MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE PUEBLO OF ISLETA TO STUDY THE FEASIBILITY OF ESTABLISHING AN ALL-PURPOSE VETERANS CENTER WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF THE PUEBLO OF ISLETA.

 

     WHEREAS, there are an estimated three hundred veterans from the Pueblo of Isleta; and

     WHEREAS, the veterans from the Pueblo of Isleta have served in the United States military with honor and heroism during times of war and peace; and

     WHEREAS, the Pueblo of Isleta veterans organization serves veterans in southern Bernalillo county, Valencia county, eastern Cibola county and western Torrance county; and

     WHEREAS, the Pueblo of Isleta veterans organization is committed to ensuring that all veterans in the four-county area receive all of their federal and state veterans benefits; and

     WHEREAS, the Pueblo of Isleta veterans organization does not have a central location from which to serve veterans;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the Pueblo of Isleta be requested to work, in cooperation with the veterans' services department, to determine the necessity and feasibility of establishing a central location where the veterans of the Pueblo of Isleta can meet and where the veterans of the four-county area can be served; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Pueblo of Isleta and the veterans' services department report their findings to the appropriate interim legislative committee no later than October 31, 2009; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the governor of the Pueblo of Isleta and the secretary of veterans' services.
