A MEMORIAL

DECLARING FEBRUARY 5, 2009 "RUIDOSO DAY" AT THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

 

     WHEREAS, Ruidoso is a beautiful mountain community nestled in a valley of the Lincoln national forest, high in the southern Rocky Mountains; and

     WHEREAS, outdoor activities abound in Ruidoso and in the surrounding area, including fishing at nearby Grindstone, Bonito and Mescalero lakes, hiking, bicycling, horseback riding and more; and

     WHEREAS, the village of Ruidoso is situated with a clear view of, and in near proximity to, Sierra Blanca mountain, with the popular Ski Apache resort for winter fun; and

     WHEREAS, the Ruidoso area claims two of New Mexico's finest casinos: Casino Apache at the beautiful Inn of the Mountain Gods and the Billy the Kid casino located at the Ruidoso Downs, which also offers horseracing; and

     WHEREAS, golfing experiences in Ruidoso are unsurpassed, with year-round opportunities at several top-rated courses; and

     WHEREAS, Ruidoso offers fine shopping, dining, lodging and camping for vacationing visitors; and

     WHEREAS, there is a vital and active art community in Ruidoso with many art galleries and artists' studios; and

     WHEREAS, while the permanent population of Ruidoso is close to eight thousand residents, the population is known to swell to twenty-five thousand during the tourist season and, during special event weekends, may reach forty thousand; and

     WHEREAS, Ruidoso is a growing community having an active real estate market with an estimated value of more than one hundred twenty-four million dollars ($124,000,000); and

     WHEREAS, the business community of Ruidoso is thriving and is preparing for its second annual business exposition, to be held in conjunction with eastern New Mexico university; and

     WHEREAS, Ruidoso deserves to be recognized as a wonderful place to live or vacation in New Mexico;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 5, 2009 be declared "Ruidoso Day" at the house of representatives; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the mayor of the village of Ruidoso.
