A MEMORIAL

CONGRATULATING THE ALPHA OMICRON CHAPTER OF TAU KAPPA EPSILON FRATERNITY ON ITS SEVENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY.

 

     WHEREAS, Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity was founded in January 1899, and is the twenty-eighth oldest social fraternity in the United States, and the world's largest collegiate social fraternity; and

     WHEREAS, Tau Kappa Epsilon is proud of its diversity, and is one of the few fraternities that has never had a discrimination clause in its membership requirements to prevent membership because of race, color or creed; and

     WHEREAS, the Alpha Omicron chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon was formed at New Mexico state university in April 1934, and was the first social fraternity to be formed at New Mexico state university; and

     WHEREAS, the Alpha Omicron chapter is one of two hundred seventy-three active chapters of Tau Kappa Epsilon, and is the only chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon in New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, the Alpha Omicron chapter has initiated one thousand one hundred seventy men into the ranks of the two hundred thirty-eight thousand men initiated internationally, including Conrad Hilton and Danny Villanueva; and

     WHEREAS, the Alpha Omicron chapter annually celebrates its contributions to New Mexico state university and the greater Las Cruces area at the Red Carnation ball; and

     WHEREAS, the 2009 Red Carnation ball will be held in Las Cruces on April 25, 2009;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the Alpha Omicron chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity be congratulated on the occasion of its seventy-fifth anniversary; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the Alpha Omicron chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity at New Mexico state university.
