A MEMORIAL

DECLARING THE INTENT OF THE NEW MEXICO SENATE TO SOUNDLY WHIP THE NEW MEXICO HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES IN THE ANNUAL HOUSE-SENATE BASKETBALL GAME, AND PROCLAIMING FEBRUARY 18, 2009 "NEW MEXICO HOUSE WHIPPING DAY" AT THE SENATE.

     WHEREAS, the house-senate charity basketball game has been played for at least the last thirteen years; and

     WHEREAS, the house of representatives has managed to either win or steal the last nine games in a row; and

     WHEREAS, yearlong bragging rights and lifelong reputations are put on the line with each game; and

     WHEREAS, voters across the state are tired of seeing the house walk away victorious every year, a sentiment they voiced when they elected eight new athletic-looking senators in 2008; and

     WHEREAS, those eight new members of the senate should increase the height, athletic ability and overall intelligence of the senate team; and

     WHEREAS, one of the house's star players, Peter Wirth, even received a promotion to the senate this year; and

     WHEREAS, while wagering in New Mexico is prohibited, handicappers have made the senate a decisive favorite this year; and

     WHEREAS, the house of representatives, cognizant of its status as the near-hopeless underdogs has recently begun contemplating such rule changes as not allowing former members of its body to play in the game; and

     WHEREAS, while the proceeds from the game go to the university of New Mexico cancer center, making it the only real winner in this endeavor, this game is still a competition and when the clock reads zero, one team will have more points than the other;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the senate rise up and, with one collective voice, declare its intent to be the team that walks off the court victorious, ending the house's win streak and stripping house members of the only real bragging rights still available to them; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the senate inform the house of its intent to soundly whip the house of representatives in the house-senate charity basketball game on February 18; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that February 18, 2009 be declared "New Mexico House Whipping Day" at the senate; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted, preferably in person, to the members of the New Mexico house of representatives.
