A MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THAT THE STATE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ACCOMMODATE STUDENTS ATTEMPTING TO TRANSFER FROM THE COLLEGE OF SANTA FE.

 

     WHEREAS, the college of Santa Fe, the oldest institution of higher education in the state, is facing an insurmountable financial crisis and is closing its doors in May 2009; and

     WHEREAS, the current student population of the college is approximately one thousand three hundred students, nine hundred of whom are from New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, the students at the institution had every expectation of being able to complete their degrees and graduate from the college of Santa Fe when they enrolled at the institution; and 

     WHEREAS, the students are now presented with the significant task of transferring to new colleges and universities and attempting to receive credit for their credit hours from the college of Santa Fe;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state educational institutions be requested to make every effort to accommodate students of the college of Santa Fe applying for admission at the state educational institutions and attempting to receive credit for their credit hours earned at the college of Santa Fe; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the board of regents of the university of New Mexico, New Mexico state university, New Mexico highlands university, western New Mexico university, eastern New Mexico university, New Mexico institute of mining and technology and northern New Mexico state school.
