A MEMORIAL

RECOMMENDING GOVERNOR BILL RICHARDSON FOR THE POSITION OF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE MOTION PICTURE ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA.

     WHEREAS, Bill Richardson's public career as a congressman, federal cabinet secretary, ambassador to the United Nations, international troubleshooter and governor of New Mexico has earned him a reputation as a dedicated and tireless, although somewhat rumpled, public servant; and

     WHEREAS, a hallmark of Governor Richardson's service has been the phenomenal expansion of the film industry in New Mexico, or "Tamalewood", as it is now known, which has generated countless new jobs (or jobs that are difficult to count, depending on who's counting), more tax revenue (or just more taxes for the rest of us) and several local government ordinances aimed at abating the annoyances that come when hundreds of pushy Hollywood-types with their damn trailers full of equipment set up camp at 3:00 a.m. in your previously peaceful neighborhood; and

     WHEREAS, Governor Richardson, or "Hollywood Bill", as he surely by now must be known to someone, somewhere, is uniquely suited to bring his command of international, national and state policy and politics to the equally demanding film industry as the executive director of the motion picture association of America; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Richardson's further qualifications for the position include his insider's knowledge of Washington, D.C., his unequaled vision of sustainable economic development (which, years from now, will manifest itself in New Mexico as movie stars and astronauts routinely and casually mingle in the streets) and his ability to recite verbatim the motion picture association of America's movie ratings system guidelines; and

     WHEREAS, Governor Richardson's immediate accession to the position of executive director of the motion picture association of America would be the best thing that could happen for both the association and certain high-profile members of the New Mexico senate and others closely associated with the senate;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that it highly recommend Governor Bill Richardson for the position of executive director of the motion picture association of America and wish him well in that pursuit.
