AN ACT

RELATING TO PUBLIC EDUCATION; PROVIDING LIMITATIONS ON SCHOOL DISTRICT EMPLOYEE OR CONTRACTOR ELECTION OR APPOINTMENT TO SCHOOL BOARDS; ENACTING A NEW SECTION OF THE PUBLIC SCHOOL CODE.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. A new section of Chapter 22, Article 5 NMSA 1978 is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] LOCAL SCHOOL BOARD--MEMBERSHIP OF CURRENT OR PAST EMPLOYEE OR CONTRACTOR.--No person who is currently or has been within the previous twenty-four months an employee or contractor of a school district shall seek election to or, in the case of a local school board vacancy, appointment to the local school board of the school district that employed or contracted with that person."
