A MEMORIAL

EXTENDING APPRECIATION AND GRATITUDE TO THE NEW MEXICO NATIONAL GUARD, NEW MEXICO STATE POLICE, NEW MEXICO PLUMBERS AND PIPEFITTERS AND EXTENDING SPECIAL RECOGNITION TO NEW MEXICO GAS COMPANY SERVICE TECHNICIANS AND OTHER CRITICAL STAFF FOR THEIR EXEMPLARY SERVICE AND THEIR RESPONSE IN AIDING COMMUNITIES DURING THE RECENT LOSS OF ACCESS TO NATURAL GAS SERVICE IN NEW MEXICO.

 

     WHEREAS, nearly thirty thousand residents of the state lost access to natural gas service in early February 2011; and

     WHEREAS, this loss of natural gas service endangered lives during a period of record low temperatures in New Mexico and resulted in millions of dollars worth of damages due to burst water pipes and loss of business; and

     WHEREAS, the residents of New Mexico suffered undue hardship; and

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico national guard, the New Mexico state police, New Mexico plumbers and pipefitters and New Mexico gas company service technicians responded to the call to provide aid, working long hours under extreme weather conditions;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that appreciation and gratitude be extended to those who responded to the recent crisis due to the loss of natural gas service for their extraordinary and exemplary service aiding those suffering extreme hardships as a result of the crisis; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the governor, the secretary of public safety, the chief of the New Mexico state police, the adjutant general of the New Mexico national guard, the united association of plumbers and pipefitters local union 412 and the New Mexico gas company.
