A MEMORIAL

DECLARING MARCH 10, 2011 AS "SCHOOLS ON THE RISE DAY" AT THE NEW MEXICO SENATE.

 

     WHEREAS, New Mexico's education standards are among the best in the country as judged by Education Week's "Quality Counts Survey"; and

     WHEREAS, one hundred eighty-three of New Mexico's eight hundred twenty-seven public schools met or exceeded adequate yearly progress this year; and

     WHEREAS, it is the goal of the public education department to ensure that all students succeed by rewarding progress and reversing failure in schools; and

     WHEREAS, the public education department continues to recognize schools that have made adequate yearly progress for two consecutive years; and

     WHEREAS, through the hard work and dedication of teachers and education leaders, fifteen schools have earned the designation of "schools on the rise"; and

     WHEREAS, these schools are S.Y. Jackson elementary school in the Albuquerque public school district; Miranda junior high school in the Springer municipal school district; Garfield elementary school in the Hatch Valley public school district; Grand Heights early childhood school in the Artesia public school district; Bayard elementary school in the Cobre consolidated school district; R.V. Traylor elementary school in the Lordsburg municipal school district; Nob Hill elementary school in the Ruidoso municipal school district; Middle College high school in the Gallup-McKinley county school district; San Juan elementary school in the Espanola public school district; Paul D. Henry elementary school in the Las Vegas city public school district; Pablo Roybal elementary school in the Pojoaque Valley public school district; Truth or Consequences elementary school in the Truth or Consequences municipal school district; Questa junior high school in the Questa independent school district; Rio Rancho cyber academy in the Rio Rancho public school district; and Gil Sanchez elementary school in the Belen consolidated school district;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that March 10, 2011 be declared "Schools on the Rise Day" at the senate to honor and recognize the fifteen schools on the rise; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to each of the fifteen schools on the rise.
