A JOINT RESOLUTION

REQUESTING CONGRESS TO CALL A CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION, UPON THE APPLICATION OF THE LEGISLATURES OF TWO-THIRDS OF THE STATES, FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION TO REQUIRE TERM LIMITS FOR MEMBERS OF CONGRESS.

 

     WHEREAS, Article 5 of the United States constitution provides that, upon the application of the legislatures of two-thirds of the states, congress shall call a convention for proposing amendments; and

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico legislature deems an amendment to the United States constitution requiring term limits for members of congress to be necessary for the good of the American people;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that it respectfully petitions the congress of the United States to call a convention for the sole purpose of proposing an amendment to the United States constitution requiring term limits for members of congress; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the New Mexico secretary of state be requested to transmit copies of this resolution to the clerk of the United States house of representatives, to the secretary of the United States senate and to each member of the New Mexico congressional delegation.
