AN ACT
RELATING TO CAMPAIGN EXPENDITURES; PROHIBITING CANDIDATES FROM RECEIVING OR EXPENDING CONTRIBUTIONS UNTIL NINETY DAYS BEFORE AN ELECTION.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
SECTION 1. A new section of the Campaign Reporting Act, Section 1-19-34.8 NMSA 1978, is enacted to read:
"1-19-34.8. [NEW MATERIAL] RESTRICTION ON RECEIPT OF CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS OR EXPENDITURES.--
A. Candidates and campaign committees shall not accept any contribution until ninety days before the primary, general or statewide special election in which the candidate is participating.
B. Candidates and campaign committees shall not make any expenditure of funds for a political purpose until ninety days before the primary, general or statewide special election in which the candidate is participating."
SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the provisions of this act is November 4, 2014.
