AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE PUBLIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT FOR A STATEWIDE MENTORSHIP PROGRAM FOR NEW TEACHERS AND FOR STUDENTS IN TEACHER PREPARATION PROGRAMS.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION.--One hundred forty thousand dollars ($140,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the public education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2014 to contract with a not-for-profit agency to operate and manage a program that matches master teachers in mentorship relationships with students in teacher preparation programs and with teachers in their first three years of teaching, offers meaningful teaching experiences for students in teacher preparation programs and provides for professional development opportunities. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2014 shall revert to the general fund.
