AN ACT
MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO TO PROVIDE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, BEST PRACTICES, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND RESEARCH TO PUBLIC SCHOOL NATIVE AMERICAN LANGUAGE TEACHERS.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION.--Five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of the university of New Mexico for expenditure in fiscal year 2014 to provide professional development and best practices in language instruction for Native language teachers in public schools; technical assistance to tribes in the state for language planning, language program development and evaluation and community leadership development; and community-based collaborative research to the tribes in the state regarding appropriate models for Native language maintenance and revitalization. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2014 shall revert to the general fund.
