    Your PUBLIC AFFAIRS COMMITTEE, to whom has been referred

SENATE BILL 260

has had it under consideration and reports same with recommendation that it DO PASS, amended as follows:

    1. On page 2, between lines 19 and 20, insert the following new paragraph:

             "(2) "deficient in reading" means a score range on the screening assessment determined by the department;".

    2. Renumber the succeeding paragraphs accordingly.

    3. On page 3, line 4, after "the", insert "weekly".

    4. On page 4, line 10, after "a", insert "collaborative".

    5. On page 4, line 17, strike "student or".

    6. On page 5, between lines 23 and 24, insert the following new paragraph:

             "(1) at the end of the first nine weeks of the school year, school districts shall administer the screening assessment to students enrolled in kindergarten. The assessment shall screen students for reading skills as defined in this section;".

    7. Renumber the succeeding paragraphs accordingly.

    8. On page 6, line 1, strike "kindergarten" and insert in lieu thereof "first".

    9. On page 6, line 6, strike "not proficient" and insert in lieu thereof "deficient".

    10. On page 6, line 7, strike "immediately".

    11. On page 6, line 20, strike "not proficient" and insert in lieu thereof "deficient".

    12. On page 6, line 24, strike "not proficient" and insert in lieu thereof "deficient".

    13. On page 7, line 15, after the second occurrence of "and", insert a comma.

    14. On page 7, line 16, after the second occurrence of "the", insert "principal, in consultation with the", after "teacher", insert a comma and strike "and school principal".

    15. On page 10, line 21, strike "individual" and insert in lieu thereof "individualized".

    16. On page 10, line 22, strike "plan" and insert in lieu thereof "program".

    17. On page 10, line 24, strike "Subsections" and insert in lieu thereof "Subsection".
