AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE WORKFORCE SOLUTIONS DEPARTMENT TO CONTRACT FOR SERVICES WITH A NEW MEXICO COMPANY OR ORGANIZATION THAT HAS DEMONSTRATED EXPERIENCE AND SUCCESS IN IMPLEMENTING WORK FORCE DEVELOPMENT AND DROPOUT PREVENTION PROGRAMS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION.--Five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the workforce solutions department for expenditure in fiscal year 2014 to contract with a New Mexico company or organization that has demonstrated experience and success in implementing work force development and dropout prevention programs and to partner with state school districts on ways to enhance academic remediation services for at-risk students, implement dropout prevention strategies and provide students with career exploration and employable skills training that aligns with enrollment in post-secondary education programs or career pathway opportunities leading to entry-level positions with business partners. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2014 shall revert to the general fund.
