A MEMORIAL

EXTENDING APPRECIATION FOR JUDGE WILLIAM "BILL" SANCHEZ'S DISTINGUISHED LEGAL CAREER AND HIS SERVICE AS A THIRTEENTH JUDICIAL DISTRICT COURT JUDGE.

 

     WHEREAS, Judge William "Bill" Sanchez, thirteenth judicial district court, has announced that he will retire from the judiciary at the end of February 2014; and

     WHEREAS, Judge Sanchez was first elected in 1992 and was last retained in 2008 to a term that expires in 2014; and

     WHEREAS, Judge Sanchez presides over a diversified docket and hears civil, criminal, children's court and domestic relations cases; and

     WHEREAS, Judge Sanchez received both his undergraduate and law degrees from the university of New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, prior to his election, Judge Sanchez served as an assistant district attorney from 1980 to 1983 and was in private practice from 1983 to 1992; and

     WHEREAS, in evaluations conducted by the New Mexico judicial performance evaluation commission, Judge Sanchez rated positive for maintaining proper control over proceedings and being attentive to proceedings and for having a dignified demeanor; and

     WHEREAS, resource staff, such as law enforcement officers and probation officers, also gave Judge Sanchez positive ratings for his attentiveness to proceedings and maintaining proper control over proceedings and for having a dignified demeanor; and

     WHEREAS, Judge Sanchez hopes to do settlement facilitations and mediations after he retires;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that appreciation be extended to Judge William "Bill" Sanchez for his long and distinguished legal career and for his service to the residents of New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to Judge William "Bill" Sanchez.
