A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING THE MUSEUM OF THE AMERICAN MILITARY FAMILY AND LEARNING CENTER AND THE IMPORTANCE OF THE AMERICAN MILITARY FAMILY.

 

     WHEREAS, since September 11, 2001, more than two million United States military service members have been deployed to serve multiple tours in dangerous combat zones thousands of miles from home to protect America; and

     WHEREAS, families of military service members also serve, managing challenges and opportunities unique to the military lifestyle; and

     WHEREAS, although there are museums, monuments and memorials honoring the men and women who have served or are currently serving in the military, there are no such institutions honoring the service of their families; and

     WHEREAS, the museum of the American military family and learning center in Albuquerque provides a forum for people with shared and converging paths to come together as a community, inspiring a sense of history; and

     WHEREAS, the mission of the museum of the American military family and learning center is to bring together people with shared experiences to showcase and honor the service of America's military families; and

     WHEREAS, the museum of the American military family and learning center provides a forum for the spouses, children, parents, grandparents and others who have loved and supported a member of the military; and

     WHEREAS, the museum of the American military family and learning center is a repository of stories, letters, documents and photos of military family members throughout the nation's history; and

     WHEREAS, the museum of the American military family and learning center currently exists online with expansion plans that include a permanent home for seven former 1940s military housing units that the museum received as gifts; and

     WHEREAS, the museum of the American military family and learning center also hosts traveling exhibits, educational events, partners with other groups to sponsor and produce film and drama programs and conducts workshops and ceremonies; and

     WHEREAS, by honoring the families of service men and women, the museum of the American military family and learning center enriches America's great military traditions;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the museum of the American military family and learning center be recognized for its contributions to honoring the American military family; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the museum of the American military family and learning center.
