A MEMORIAL

DECLARING MARCH 14 (3.14) TO BE "SUPER PI DAY NEW MEXICO" IN THE SENATE.

 

     WHEREAS, March 14 can be represented by the number 3.14, the simplest value for pi; and

     WHEREAS, March 14 is Albert Einstein's birthday; and

     WHEREAS, pi is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter; and

     WHEREAS, in 2015, "Super Pi Day" is being celebrated because it occurs only once every one hundred years; and

     WHEREAS, on March 14, 2015 at 9:26 and 53 seconds, it is not just 3.14 pi, but the expanded version of 3.14159265359, which is usually where most calculator displays stop; and

     WHEREAS, pi day's first large-scale celebration was twenty-five years ago at the exploratorium in San Francisco, California; and

     WHEREAS, in 2009, the United States house of representatives acknowledged the designation of March 14 as pi day, an unofficial holiday celebrating the mathematical constant pi; and

     WHEREAS, pi day is an educational, fun-filled celebration of art, science and sharing food (pie); and

     WHEREAS, New Mexico has the best art, the most advanced science and a tradition of sharing unique food that is not surpassed;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that March 14 (3.14) be declared "Super Pi Day New Mexico" in the senate; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to Hand Pi, LLC.
