A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING THE SIXTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF THE NATIONAL FEDERATION OF THE BLIND OF NEW MEXICO.

 

     WHEREAS, on June 2, 1956, blind people in New Mexico created their own organization and established what is now known as the national federation of the blind of New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, on June 2, 2016, the national federation of the blind of New Mexico will celebrate its sixtieth anniversary and will honor this momentous milestone at its annual convention April 8 through 10, 2016 in Albuquerque; and

     WHEREAS, for sixty years, the national federation of the blind of New Mexico has conducted programs and initiated activities designed to teach blind people and the public that the characteristic of blindness does not result in a life of dependence, hopelessness and despair; and

     WHEREAS, the national federation of the blind of New Mexico has served as a vehicle for collective action and advocacy for persons who are blind and, through its actions, have demonstrated the ability of the blind to work together to solve common problems; and

     WHEREAS, the national federation of the blind of New Mexico serves as a source of inspiration and encouragement for persons who are new to vision loss or to blindness by giving them an opportunity to exchange valuable information with individuals in similar situations;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the national federation of the blind of New Mexico be recognized on its sixtieth anniversary for its service to help people understand that blindness does not limit the prospects for a life filled with success, independence and contribution to society; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the president of the national federation of the blind of New Mexico.
