A MEMORIAL

DECLARING FEBRUARY 3, 2016 "COOKING WITH KIDS DAY" IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

     WHEREAS, cooking with kids, a nonprofit organization founded in Santa Fe, is celebrating twenty years of award-winning food and nutrition education programs for New Mexico schoolchildren; and

     WHEREAS, every year, over five thousand pre-kindergarten through sixth grade students are empowered to make healthy food choices through joyful, hands-on learning with fresh, affordable foods from diverse cultural traditions; and

     WHEREAS, cooking with kids' focus on positive experience with real food is a factor in the prevention of childhood obesity; and

     WHEREAS, cooking with kids' educational programs result in long-term, lasting nutritional benefits to entire families; and

     WHEREAS, cooking with kids has partnered with educators, farmers, chefs and families to teach over thirty thousand cooking classes during the past two decades; and

     WHEREAS, cooking with kids' alumni use cooking skills to become self-reliant, and many pursue vibrant culinary careers; and

     WHEREAS, community support and collaboration have made cooking with kids a nationally acclaimed leader in food and nutrition education; and

     WHEREAS, cooking with kids shares the resources it has developed over the past twenty years with families and educators around the world; and

     WHEREAS, cooking with kids looks forward to the next twenty years of helping to create a healthy future for the children of New Mexico;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 3, 2016 be proclaimed "Cooking with Kids Day" in the house of representatives; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the chair of the board of directors of cooking with kids, incorporated.
