A MEMORIAL

DECLARING FEBRUARY 11, 2016 "NEW MEXICO HISPANIC MEDICAL ASSOCIATION DAY" IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

 

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico Hispanic medical association was established in 1989 as a nonprofit physicians' organization dedicated to increasing the diversity of the New Mexico health care workforce and making health care accessible and affordable for all New Mexicans; and

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico Hispanic medical association provided free health care services to more than twelve thousand medically uninsured and underserved people in New Mexico at feria de salud: a day of free health care, an event held every April; and

     WHEREAS, since 1989, the New Mexico Hispanic medical association has provided more than ninety thousand dollars ($90,000) in scholarships to medical students from diverse backgrounds at the university of New Mexico school of medicine; and

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico Hispanic medical association membership is made up of dedicated physicians with a mission to provide community health care outreach; and

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico Hispanic medical association provides mentoring services to rural university students interested in pursuing a career in health care; and

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico Hispanic medical association provides continuing medical education opportunities for physicians and other health care providers on the medical issues facing the most vulnerable populations of New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico Hispanic medical association physicians have provided thousands of hours of community service and charitable care in New Mexico;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 11, 2016 be declared "New Mexico Hispanic Medical Association Day" in the house of representatives; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the executive director of the New Mexico Hispanic medical association.
