A MEMORIAL

HONORING REPRESENTATIVE NORA ESPINOZA AND RECOGNIZING HER OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO NEW MEXICO.

 

     WHEREAS, after five terms of dedicated public service, Representative Nora Espinoza will be retiring from legislative service at the end of her term; and

     WHEREAS, since 2007, Representative Espinoza, a Republican party member, has represented district 59, which covers Chaves and Lincoln counties; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Espinoza is the chairwoman of the house education committee and a member of the house regulatory and public affairs committee; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Espinoza has a twenty-three-year career as a teacher and an administrator, which informs her positions on education legislation; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Espinoza has been a staunch supporter of legislation advancing third-grade reading standards and retention; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Espinoza has stated that she is a strong believer that children must master in the minors of reading, writing and mathematics; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Espinoza has also served as the chair of the Chaves county Republican party and as president of the Chaves county federated Republican women; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Espinoza was born and raised in Panama City, Panama; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Espinoza is an enthusiastic tennis player and was an Olympic swimmer for Panama City, Panama; and

     WHEREAS, in 2003, Representative Espinoza earned a bachelor of arts degree in religious education from new covenant international university; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Espinoza began her career as a teacher and a school administrator in private Christian schools before working as the protocol liaison and cadet services coordinator for the New Mexico military institute in Roswell; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Espinoza is married to Sonny Espinoza, whom she met in Panama City, dated once and then conducted a courtship by mail for six months before their marriage; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Espinoza's striking presence at the state capitol, wearing a stylish collection of hats, will be missed;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Representative Nora Espinoza be recognized and honored for her dedication to the representation and well-being of the people of New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to Representative Nora Espinoza.
