A MEMORIAL

HONORING REPRESENTATIVE CONRAD JAMES AND RECOGNIZING HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO NEW MEXICO.

 

     WHEREAS, after two terms representing house district 24, covering Bernalillo county, Representative Conrad James is retiring at the end of this legislative term; and

      WHEREAS, Representative James, a Republican, first served in the legislature from 2011 to 2012, and was again elected to serve from 2015 to 2016; and

      WHEREAS, Representative James is the vice chair of the house business and employment committee and is a member of the house appropriations and finance committee; and

     WHEREAS, Representative James is a strong advocate of limited government and of socially and fiscally conservative policies he believes best afford the opportunity for New Mexicans to prosper and fulfill their innate potential; and

     WHEREAS, during his first term, Representative James carried legislation that reduced tax pyramiding in the manufacturing and construction industries; and

     WHEREAS, Representative James was honored with the spirit of bipartisanship rising star award from New Mexico first, a public policy organization, and he also received the soaring eagle award from the New Mexico association of counties; and

     WHEREAS, Representative James was born and raised in Ohio in a family that stressed education and work; and

     WHEREAS, Representative James completed his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, summa cum laude, from the university of Notre Dame, and he received his master's and doctoral degrees from Cornell university in applied and engineering physics; and

     WHEREAS, since 2002, Representative James has worked as a research engineer at Sandia national laboratories; and

     WHEREAS, in 2013, Representative James was appointed to the university of New Mexico board of regents and served two years; and

     WHEREAS, Representative James is described by colleagues as kind and thoughtful and as having the ability to disagree without being disagreeable; and

     WHEREAS, in announcing his decision to not run for reelection, Representative James stated that he was deeply honored to have served as a legislator; and

     WHEREAS, Representative James praised a partnership with his constituents for successes in expanded voter access to creating jobs by simplifying the tax code for businesses; and

     WHEREAS, Representative James and his wife, Natasha, are raising three children in the northeast heights of Albuquerque, and Representative James is looking forward to spending more time with his school-age children;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Representative Conrad James be honored for his dedication to the representation and well-being of the people of New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to Representative Conrad James.
