A MEMORIAL

REQUESTING MEASURES TO MAINTAIN THE PROPERTY WHERE THE TELEVISION SERIES MANHATTAN IS FILMED.

     WHEREAS, Manhattan is a television drama series based on the project by that name to develop the first atomic bomb; and

     WHEREAS, the set for the Manhattan series is located on a tract of state-owned land in Santa Fe; and

     WHEREAS, before the company Lionsgate began leasing the land to build the set for and film Manhattan, the property had been neglected and was in a state of dilapidation; and

     WHEREAS, to prepare the property for filming, Lionsgate invested a great sum of money to improve the property, including by performing remediation and protecting against vandalism and pests; and

     WHEREAS, it is very likely that the property will return to a state of dilapidation if measures are not taken to maintain it; and

     WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the city of Santa Fe and the state for the property to be maintained in its current condition;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the film division of the economic development department and the general services department be requested to develop and implement a plan to maintain the tract of land housing the Manhattan set; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the film division and the general services department be requested to solicit from the technicians who built the Manhattan set input on maintaining the property; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the director of the film division of the economic development department and the secretary of general services.
