A MEMORIAL

REMEMBERING AND HONORING MARK ARMIJO.

 

     WHEREAS, Mark Armijo, a native New Mexican, passed away on December 15, 2015 at the age of forty-eight; and

     WHEREAS, at the time of his death, Mr. Armijo had been serving on the central New Mexico community college governing board since 2011 and had been serving as vice chair at the time of his passing, providing the college and central New Mexico district residents with outstanding leadership; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Armijo had been a proud public servant for many years in the field of public education, striving to continually improve educational opportunities for New Mexicans, especially those in Albuquerque's south valley, where he was born and raised; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Armijo graduated from Rio Grande high school in 1985 and earned a bachelor's degree in computer science from the college of Santa Fe in 2004; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Armijo contributed significantly to improving New Mexico's public education system; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Armijo had served as president of the nuestros valores charter school board in the south valley since 2000; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Armijo was president of the Pauline Armijo scholarship fund, a fund named after his mother, which provides scholarships to women seeking degrees in the education field; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Armijo was a member of the national association of Latino elected and appointed officials; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Armijo was an active volunteer in the south valley community, serving as president of the south valley soccer club and as a coach in the south valley little league; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Armijo positively influenced many students in New Mexico, displaying a lifelong and unwavering devotion to improving education in New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Armijo was a loving husband to his wife, Melissa, and a loving father to his children, Christian and Aja;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Mark Armijo be remembered and honored for his significant contributions to public education in New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the family of Mark Armijo.
