SENATE BILL 117

AN ACT

RELATING TO ELECTIONS; AMENDING A SECTION OF THE NMSA 1978 THAT PROHIBITS A VOTER FROM SHOWING THE CONTENTS OF THE VOTER'S BALLOT TO OTHERS IN ORDER TO ALLOW "BALLOT SELFIES".

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. Section 1-12-57 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1977, Chapter 222, Section 60, as amended) is amended to read:

     "1-12-57. PAPER BALLOTS--PROCEDURE AFTER MARKING.--After marking and preparing a paper ballot in a polling place or alternate voting location, the voter

          [A. shall not show it to any person in such a way as to reveal its contents; and

          B.] shall feed the paper ballot into the electronic vote tabulator."
