A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING THE HATCH CHILE ASSOCIATION FOR ITS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE CULTURE AND ECONOMY OF NEW MEXICO THROUGH THE PROMOTION OF HATCH FARM-GROWN CHILE.

     WHEREAS, New Mexico residents have cultivated, grown and marketed unprocessed chile in the Hatch valley region since long before New Mexico became a state in 1912; and

     WHEREAS, chile grown in the Hatch valley region has become known and famous as chile of the highest quality and is sold throughout New Mexico, the United States and increasingly around the globe; and

     WHEREAS, the Hatch chile association was organized in 2013 for the purpose of ensuring that chile grown in the Hatch valley is properly identified and certified as such; and

     WHEREAS, the Hatch chile association's certification further ensures that chile not grown in the Hatch valley is not inaccurately identified as having come from the Hatch valley; and

     WHEREAS, the Hatch chile association has made significant contributions to the culture and economy of New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, the reputation of chile from the Hatch valley contributes to the healthy growth of an agricultural industry that is of vital importance to the future of New Mexico and the growth of the state's economy; and

     WHEREAS, in 2012, the United States senate recognized the Hatch valley region of New Mexico as the "chile capital of the world";

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the Hatch chile association be recognized for its contributions to the growth and development of an agricultural industry of vital cultural and economic significance to New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Hatch chile association be recognized for certifying the source and quality of chile grown in the Hatch valley; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the Hatch chile association.
