A MEMORIAL
COMMENDING ALEX O. ROMERO FOR HIS SERVICE AND DEDICATION TO THE RESIDENTS OF ALBUQUERQUE AND NEW MEXICO.
WHEREAS, Alex O. Romero recently announced his retirement, effective April 28, 2017, from the Albuquerque Hispano chamber of commerce after serving twelve years as its president and chief executive officer; and
WHEREAS, prior to joining the Albuquerque Hispano chamber of commerce, Alex retired after thirty-five years with the bank of America, last serving as its executive vice president; and
WHEREAS, during his nearly fifty years in Albuquerque's business community, Alex chaired the state's economic development commission, small business regulatory advisory commission and Hispanic education advisory council, as well as the Lovelace medical center governing board and Albuquerque Hispano chamber of commerce board of directors; and
WHEREAS, under Alex's leadership, the Albuquerque Hispano chamber of commerce became the largest chamber of commerce in New Mexico and the largest Hispanic chamber of commerce in the United States and was named the 2014 and 2015 Hispanic chamber of the year by the United States Hispanic chamber of commerce; and
WHEREAS, Alex has always been passionate about education for New Mexico and its children and was instrumental in advocating for, and helping pass, the Hispanic Education Act, which strives to reduce the achievement gap between Hispanic and non-Hispanic students; and
WHEREAS, Alex has been nominated by the governor to be a member of the board of regents for the university of New Mexico;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Alex O. Romero be commended for his years of dedicated service to the residents of Albuquerque and New Mexico; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Alex be commended for his leadership of the Albuquerque Hispano chamber of commerce; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to Alex O. Romero and the Albuquerque Hispano chamber of commerce.
