A MEMORIAL
DECLARING MARCH 1, 2017 "NEW MEXICO ATHLETIC TRAINER DAY" IN THE SENATE.
WHEREAS, athletic trainers have a long history of providing quality health care services for athletes and those engaged in regular physical activity; and
WHEREAS, athletic trainers are able to recommend specific tasks and activities based on the knowledge and skills they acquired through their nationally regulated educational processes; and
WHEREAS, athletic trainers are educated and skilled in the prevention, recognition, evaluation and aggressive treatment of athletic injuries; and
WHEREAS, athletic trainers provide rehabilitative services, education and health care guidance for their clients; and
WHEREAS, the national athletic trainers' association represents and supports forty-four thousand members of the athletic training profession, including more than one hundred fifty athletic trainers in New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, athletic trainers are employed in a variety of settings, including professional sports organizations, colleges and universities, high schools, clinics and hospitals, performing arts centers, corporate and industrial settings and all branches of the United States military; and
WHEREAS, leading organizations concerned with athletic training and health care have united in a common commitment to raise public awareness of the importance of the profession of athletic training and the role of athletic trainers in the provision of quality health care services; and
WHEREAS, the national athletic trainers' association sponsors national training month every March; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the senate to promote improved health care for athletes and all of those who engage in physical activity, including those participating in the annual legislative basketball game;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that March 1, 2017 be declared "New Mexico Athletic Trainer Day" in the senate; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the New Mexico athletic trainers' association and the national athletic trainers' association.
