A MEMORIAL

REQUESTING LEGISLATIVE INTERIM COMMITTEES TO RECEIVE PRESENTATIONS ON AND EXAMINE ISSUES RELATED TO THE TAXATION AND REGULATION OF CANNABIS DURING THE 2017 INTERIM.

 

     WHEREAS, as of the end of 2016, eight states had established systems to tax and regulate cannabis for recreational use; and 

     WHEREAS, for several years, legislation seeking to tax and regulate cannabis for recreational use has been introduced and debated in New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, the legislature's work on this issue can be supported through the presentation of research and other information from interested parties;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the legislative interim committees that consider courts, corrections and justice matters and economic and rural development matters and the legislative health and human services committee be requested to receive presentations on and examine issues related to the taxation and regulation of cannabis for recreational use during the 2017 interim; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the director of the legislative council service.
