A MEMORIAL

PROCLAIMING FEBRUARY 5, 2018 "NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY AGGIES FOOTBALL TEAM DAY" IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

 

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico state university Aggies football team finished the 2017 regular season with a record of seven wins and six losses; and

     WHEREAS, the Aggies were invited to play in the Nova home loans Arizona bowl at Arizona stadium in Tucson, Arizona, on December 29, 2017, their first bowl game appearance since winning the 1960 sun bowl; and

     WHEREAS, the Aggies ended a historic season in Arizona with a 26-20 overtime victory over Utah state in the bowl game; and

     WHEREAS, the Aggies played in front of a record bowl attendance of thirty-nine thousand one hundred thirty-two attendees, with an overwhelming majority pulling for the Aggies from Las Cruces, New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, the Aggies in crimson were led by running back Larry Rose III, who finished the game with one hundred forty-two yards rushing and forty-eight yards receiving; and

     WHEREAS, Larry Rose III scored on a twenty-one yard touchdown run to clinch the game in the first overtime possession and seal the school's first bowl game win in fifty-seven years and its third bowl game victory in the school's history; and

     WHEREAS, New Mexico state university head football coach Doug Martin said of the victory: "I'm just thrilled for these kids and this community. Just look at these fans who showed up here. This is an unbelievable day for us.";

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the New Mexico state university Aggies football team be congratulated for its victory over Utah state at the 2017 Nova home loans Arizona bowl; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that February 5, 2018 be proclaimed "New Mexico State University Aggies Football Team Day" in the house of representatives; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the head coach of the New Mexico state university Aggies football team.
