A MEMORIAL

COMMEMORATING FEBRUARY 14, 2018 AS "I HEART CAREGIVERS DAY" IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

 

     WHEREAS, each year, an estimated four hundred nineteen thousand adults in the state provide an estimated two hundred fifty-seven million hours of unpaid family caregiving at an estimated value of more than three billion one hundred million dollars ($3,100,000,000); and

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico state plan for family caregivers acknowledged the role that unpaid caregivers play in helping seniors and other family members remain independent; and

     WHEREAS, many unpaid caregivers have the challenge of balancing work, family and caregiver responsibilities; and

     WHEREAS, many working, unpaid caregivers are supported by their employers; and

     WHEREAS, some working caregivers must adjust their work schedules, give up employment opportunities or leave work to fulfill their caregiving responsibilities; and

     WHEREAS, working, unpaid caregivers need to be supported and recognized;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 14, 2018 be commemorated as "I Heart Caregivers Day" in the house of representatives; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the AARP New Mexico state office, the Las Cruces AARP chapter and the secretary of aging and long-term services.
