A MEMORIAL

HONORING REPRESENTATIVE YVETTE HERRELL AND RECOGNIZING HER OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO NEW MEXICO.

 

     WHEREAS, after four terms of dedicated service, Representative Yvette Herrell will be retiring from legislative service at the end of her term; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Herrell, a Republican, has represented district 51, which covers Otero county, since 2011; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Herrell has been a member of the business and industry committee from 2011 to 2014 and from 2017 to 2018; a member of the state government, Indian and veterans affairs committee from 2017 to 2018; and a member of the business and employment, health and government affairs and health, government and Indian affairs committees at times during her legislative career; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Herrell also was the chair of the regulatory and public affairs committee from 2015 to 2016; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Herrell served on several interim committees, including the courts, corrections and justice committee; the economic and rural development committee; the Indian affairs committee; and the New Mexico finance authority oversight committee; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Herrell is a strong advocate of traditional family values and has sponsored legislation to ban most abortions after twenty weeks of pregnancy; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Herrell has backed the call for a national convention to amend the United States constitution with restrictions on government spending as well as term limits for members of congress; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Herrell was born in Ruidoso, lives in Alamogordo and is self-employed in real estate investing; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Herrell was a former partner of Alamo earthwork and paving in Alamogordo and owned holiday kennels in La Luz; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Herrell got her first introduction to legislative politics when she served as a legislative assistant to Representative Dianne Hamilton and Representative Nora Espinoza from 2008 to 2010; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Herrell is broadening her political horizons and is running for the southern New Mexico congressional seat being vacated by United States Representative Steve Pearce; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Herrell has stated that she is running for congress to provide a voice that will represent the values, culture and future of New Mexico;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Representative Yvette Herrell be recognized and honored for her dedication to the representation and well-being of the people of New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to Representative Yvette Herrell.
