AN ACT

RELATING TO ELECTIONS; REQUIRING CANDIDATES FOR OFFICES TO SUBMIT PROOF OF RESIDENCE.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. A new section of Chapter 1, Article 8 NMSA 1978 is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] CANDIDATE PROOF OF RESIDENCE.--Within two days of a person submitting a declaration of candidacy to the proper filing officer, the person shall provide proof of residence as shown by a valid driver's license that meets federal requirements to be accepted by federal agencies for official federal purposes or an identification card that meets federal requirements to be accepted by federal agencies for official federal purposes."
