AN ACT

RELATING TO PUBLIC HOLIDAYS; PROVIDING FOR OBSERVANCE OF GUADALUPE HIDALGO TREATY DAY ON A MONDAY IN YEARS THAT FEBRUARY 2 FALLS ON A SATURDAY OR SUNDAY.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. Section 12-5-10 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1997, Chapter 77, Section 1) is amended to read:

     "12-5-10. GUADALUPE HIDALGO TREATY DAY.--February 2 of each year shall be set apart and known as "Guadalupe Hidalgo treaty day" in recognition and commemoration of the day in 1848 on which the Treaty of Peace, Friendship, Limits and Settlement, commonly known as the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, was executed between the United States and the Mexican Republic; provided that in a year in which February 2 is a Saturday or Sunday, official observance of Guadalupe Hidalgo treaty day shall be on the immediately following Monday."
