AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE CHILDREN, YOUTH AND FAMILIES DEPARTMENT TO EXPAND ARTS PROGRAMS IN JUVENILE JUSTICE.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION.--Eight hundred thousand dollars ($800,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the children, youth and families department for expenditure in fiscal years 2020 and 2021 to support and expand current programs that provide arts-based curricula to teach academic subjects, social skills and conflict resolution to children in a juvenile detention facility or under supervised release, and to provide similar programming to children after release to promote successful reintegration and reduce recidivism. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2021 shall revert to the general fund.
