A MEMORIAL

DECLARING FEBRUARY 18, 2019 "NEW MEXICO PUBLIC EDUCATOR APPRECIATION DAY" IN THE SENATE.

 

     WHEREAS, public educators are vital and integral parts of New Mexico's education system throughout the state in early education centers, eighty-eight diverse school districts and institutions of higher learning; and

     WHEREAS, learning is a continuum from birth through career, each level building upon prior learning, and educators work to embrace students' cultural, linguistic and familial knowledge in order to create a truly enriching educational experience; and

     WHEREAS, early education professionals work with New Mexico's youngest learners to lay a solid foundation for future learning and cultivate young minds in an effort to promote lifelong learning; and

     WHEREAS, teachers and instructional support providers are responsible for the important task of educating future generations of New Mexicans and they contribute daily to the growth and success of our children, often in challenging settings; and

     WHEREAS, educational assistants and community support liaisons often serve high-needs student populations, including special education students and students with exceptional behavioral and social needs, and often assist teachers with the youngest students in our schools; and

     WHEREAS, facilities personnel, transportation workers, secretaries and cafeteria workers take pride in the rewarding role they play in New Mexico's education system from early education through higher education, and work hard to serve all students; and

     WHEREAS, New Mexico's public higher education institutions continue to build upon the educational foundation that students receive in high school and provide their students with essential skills and knowledge that enhance personal growth, economic opportunity and civic engagement; and

     WHEREAS, faculty at New Mexico's public colleges and universities conduct groundbreaking research that has led to important contributions to the economic growth and social welfare of the state; and

     WHEREAS, New Mexico's public educators, as a whole, are responsible for challenging, encouraging and preparing generation after generation of New Mexico children for future success by promoting and creating a twenty-first century, world-class education system in New Mexico;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 18, 2019 be declared "New Mexico Public Educator Appreciation Day" in the senate to acknowledge the immeasurable contributions and hard work that public educators provide on behalf of students, parents, communities and New Mexico's places of learning; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the governor, the secretary of public education, the secretary of higher education and the secretary of children, youth and families.
