A MEMORIAL

CONGRATULATING THE SANTA FE OPERA FOR THE (R)EVOLUTION OF STEVE JOBS BEING NAMED BEST OPERA RECORDING AT THE SIXTY-FIRST GRAMMY AWARDS.

 

     WHEREAS, the recording of Mason Bates and Mark Campbell's opera, The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs, won best opera recording at the sixty-first GRAMMY awards on February 10, 2019 in Los Angeles, California; and

     WHEREAS, the Santa Fe opera produced the world premiere in July 2017, and performances of the sold-out run were recorded live; and

     WHEREAS, the album was released on the Pentatone label in 2018 and received praise throughout the music industry; and

     WHEREAS, The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs was a Santa Fe opera co-commission with the Seattle opera and the San Francisco opera, with support from Cal performances; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to winning the GRAMMY for best opera recording, The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs recording also garnered three other GRAMMY nominations for best engineered album, classical; producer of the year, classical; and best contemporary classical composition; and

     WHEREAS, also to be congratulated are conductor Michael Christie, producer Elizabeth Ostrow, the Santa Fe opera orchestra and chorus and artists Sasha Cooke, Jessica E. Jones, Edward Parks, Garrett Sorenson and Wei Wu;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the Santa Fe opera be congratulated for The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs being named best opera recording at the sixty-first GRAMMY awards; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the general director of the Santa Fe opera.
