FOR THE LEGISLATIVE EDUCATION STUDY COMMITTEE

 

AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE PUBLIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT TO ENHANCE PROGRAMS THAT FOSTER FRIENDSHIPS BETWEEN STUDENTS WITH AND STUDENTS WITHOUT INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION.--Three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the public education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2021 to enhance programs in middle schools and high schools that are directed at fostering one-to-one friendships between students with and students without intellectual and developmental disabilities and promoting inclusion in school environments. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2021 shall revert to the general fund.
