AN ACT

RELATING TO LAW ENFORCEMENT; REQUIRING THE GOVERNOR TO DETAIL A SELECT GROUP OF STATE POLICE OFFICERS TO BE STATIONED IN CERTAIN MUNICIPALITIES.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. Section 29-2-21 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1941, Chapter 147, Section 20, as amended) is amended to read:

     "29-2-21. DETAILS.--

          A. The governor [of New Mexico] may from time to time detail all or any part of the [New Mexico] state police to such part of the state as in [his] the governor's judgment may be necessary to bring about proper law enforcement in the state to handle disturbances or to investigate specific law violations.

          B. The governor shall convene a strike force of thirty state police officers to be stationed in a municipality with a population of five hundred thousand persons or more according to the most recent federal decennial census from July 1, 2020 until June 30, 2021."

     SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the provisions of this act is July 1, 2020.
