AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE PUBLIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT FOR AN EARLY PHYSICS EDUCATION PILOT PROJECT.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION.--Six hundred thousand dollars ($600,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the public education department for expenditure in fiscal years 2021 through 2025 to design and implement a five-year early physics education pilot project for sixth through eighth grades that incorporates age-appropriate physics education curricula and tests whether early education in physics will increase academic performance in all subject areas and encourage interest in post-secondary educational careers in science and mathematics. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2026 shall revert to the general fund.
