A MEMORIAL

DECLARING FEBRUARY 6, 2020 "NEW MEXICO NATIONAL BOARD-CERTIFIED TEACHERS RECOGNITION DAY" IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

 

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico national board certified teacher network was established in 2001 to provide national certification to teachers and to promote accomplished teaching; and

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico national board certified teacher network advocates for board-certified teachers, educates teachers, supports candidates for certification and recognizes national board-certified teachers across the United States; and

     WHEREAS, national board certification is rigorous and takes applicants between three and five years to achieve; and

     WHEREAS, applicants for national board certification must demonstrate competency across three performance-based domains and complete written testing of content and pedagogical knowledge; and

     WHEREAS, over sixty-nine percent of national board-certified teachers continue to educate students after twenty years of teaching; and 

     WHEREAS, one thousand two hundred seventy-six national board-certified teachers practice throughout New Mexico's public school districts and private schools and federal bureau of Indian education schools located within the state;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 6, 2020 be declared "New Mexico National Board-Certified Teachers Recognition Day" in the house of representatives; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the contributions and achievements of board-certified teachers in nurturing the learning and growth of New Mexico students be recognized; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the governor and the secretary of public education.
