A MEMORIAL

HONORING REPRESENTATIVE PAUL C. BANDY AND RECOGNIZING HIS VALUABLE SERVICE AND LEADERSHIP TO NEW MEXICO.

 

     WHEREAS, Paul C. Bandy, a Republican state representative for District 3, San Juan county, is retiring at the end of 2020 after fourteen years and seven terms in office; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Bandy was first elected in 2006 and will serve through the 2020 legislative session; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Bandy serves on the agriculture and water resources committee, on which he has been a member from 2017 through the 2020 legislative session; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Bandy served as a member on the agriculture, water and wildlife committee from 2015 to 2016 and as a member of the energy and natural resources committee from 2007 to 2012; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Bandy was the vice chair from 2015 to 2016 of the appropriations and finance committee and served as a member on the committee from 2013 to 2014 and from 2017 through the 2020 legislative session; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Bandy was a member of the judiciary committee from 2009 to 2012, a member of the voters and elections committee from 2013 to 2014 and a member of the health and government affairs committee from 2007 to 2008; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Bandy was the chair of the rules and order of business committee in 2016 and served as a member from 2017 through the 2020 legislative session; and

     WHEREAS, important interim committee assignments for Representative Bandy included serving on the water and natural resources committee as a member from 2007 to 2019 and on the legislative finance committee as a designee from 2013 to 2014 and 2019 and as a member from 2015 to 2018; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Bandy's other interim committee assignments included the government restructuring task force, the land grant committee, the redistricting committee and the tobacco settlement revenue oversight committee; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Bandy is a respected fiscal conservative who watches the state budget closely and understands the process; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Bandy is most proud of his 2019 forest and watershed restoration bill, House Bill 266, which received bipartisan support; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Bandy, a cattle rancher from Aztec, has specialized in hormone- and antibiotic-free grass-fed beef for over thirty years; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Bandy and his wife, Mary Catherine, raised four children, Matthew, Robin, Lysandra and Marybeth, on the family ranch, where they now welcome their children's spouses and their eight grandsons; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Bandy is conservative and believes in lower taxes, efficient government and traditional values, which he exemplified as a legislator during his time in Santa Fe; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Bandy is held in high esteem by his fellow legislators;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Representative Paul C. Bandy be honored for his valuable service and leadership to New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to Representative Paul C. Bandy.
