A RESOLUTION

AMENDING THE SENATE RULES REGARDING PHOTOGRAPHY IN COMMITTEE HEARINGS.

 

     WHEREAS, Senate Rule 24-1 provides that the rules of the senate may be amended by a two-thirds' majority vote of the members of the senate or by a majority vote of the members of the senate upon the recommendation of the rules committee;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Senate Rule 9-5-7 be amended to read:

"9-5-7    In addition to the transmissions provided for              in Senate Rule 9-5-8, photography, video or                audio recording or transmission of committee               proceedings [may, upon request, be allowed with            the permission of the chair and ranking member]            shall be allowed; provided that:

(a) the photography, video or audio recording or transmission by duly accredited members of the press pursuant to Senate Rule 23-3 shall be allowed;

(b) the photography, video or audio recording or transmission by members of the public or the press occurs only from the public seating to the rear of the room or other areas as permitted by the chair and the ranking member of the committee; and

(c) the chair and the ranking member of the committee may suspend the allowance of photography, video or audio recording or transmission by members of the public at any time for the purpose of maintaining order or decorum.".
