A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING THE NEW MEXICO MILITARY INSTITUTE BRONCOS FOR WINNING THE NATIONAL JUNIOR COLLEGE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION DIVISION ONE NATIONAL FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

 

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico military institute broncos captured the national junior college athletic association division one national football championship on December 17, 2021 at War Memorial stadium in Little Rock, Arkansas; and

     WHEREAS, under first-year head coach and former New Mexico military institute player Kurt Taufa'asau, the broncos scored a thirty-one to thirteen victory over number-one-ranked Iowa western, capturing the broncos' first national football title; and

     WHEREAS, led by running back Anthony Grant and quarterback Diego Pavia, the broncos secured a twenty-four to zero halftime lead; and

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico military institute defense forced three turnovers, including two fumble recoveries by Christian Carreathers and Hunter Chambers and an interception by Jayden Oliver; and

     WHEREAS, the broncos took a fourteen to zero lead in the first quarter, with Anthony Grant scoring on a twenty-three yard run, Diego Pavia running in from thirty-four yards and William Testa kicking the extra points after the touchdowns; and

     WHEREAS, William Testa booted a twenty-four yard field goal and, with forty seconds remaining before halftime, Terrence Moore scored on a sixteen-yard touchdown pass from Diego Pavia, followed by William Testa's extra point, bringing the score to twenty-four to zero; and

     WHEREAS, in the third quarter, Anthony Grant caught a four-yard touchdown pass from Diego Pavia, and William Testa scored the point after the touchdown for a thirty-one to zero lead; and

     WHEREAS, Iowa western scored two touchdowns and one point after a touchdown in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to tarnish the broncos' victory;

      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the New Mexico military institute broncos be recognized for winning the national junior college athletic association division one national football championship; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to New Mexico military institute head coach Kurt Taufa'asau and to the members of the New Mexico military institute's national championship team.
