A MEMORIAL

HONORING REPRESENTATIVE ALONZO BALDONADO AND RECOGNIZING HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO NEW MEXICO.

 

     WHEREAS, Representative Alonzo Baldonado of Los Lunas is a former legislator who represented district 8, which covers Valencia county; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Baldonado was the first Republican elected to house district 8; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Baldonado was first elected in 2010 and served eleven years by the end of 2021; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Baldonado received a bachelor of arts degree in business administration from the university of New Mexico in 1996; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Baldonado was the Republican caucus chair in 2013 and the house majority whip from 2015 to 2016, when Republicans held a majority in the chamber; and

     WHEREAS, during his tenure, Representative Baldonado was a member of a number of standing committees, including the business and industry committee from 2017 to 2018, the commerce and economic development committee from 2019 to 2021 and the education committee from 2011 to 2021; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Baldonado also served on numerous interim committees, including the Indian affairs committee, the land grant committee, the legislative education study committee and the New Mexico finance authority oversight committee; and

     WHEREAS, during his eleven years in the house, Representative Baldonado pushed for legislation requiring parental notification before a minor could get an abortion and sponsored bills dealing with real estate issues and hunting and fishing rules;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Representative Alonzo Baldonado be recognized for his outstanding public service to the residents of New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to Alonzo Baldonado.
